Offering Rural Lifestyle with rewarding Income Potential
Our
21 acre farm is located in the rural Township of West Carleton (City of
Ottawa) and with its old Stone House represents a piece of Ontario History.
It is known locally as 'Bairds Grant'.
Scorry Breck Alpaca's location is within an hour drive to the US New York
State border and conveniently serves Eastern Canada and Eastern United
States.
We look over and across the Ottawa River to 'La belle Provence' - Quebec.
To make use of the acreage, we decided in 1999 to enter the world of raising
Alpacas and we never looked back. They provide us joy, entertainment and
are the center of many conversations. They give us reason to get up in
the morning and Rainer eased happily into rubber boots to start his day.
Good-bye executive suit, hello barn outfit.
We believe
in correct conformation as the foundation for a successful breeding program.
We are breeding for uniformity in micron, density, staple length and minimal amount of guard hair. We select matings based on proven genetic traits, not hype. We believe in the cooperation among breeders.
We are involved
in and committed to the industry. Caecilia served as President of the
Canadian Alpaca Breeders Association (CABA), and chaired
CABA's advertising/web site committee. She served as a Member of the Canadian
Llama and Alpaca Association (CLAA) Alpaca Marketing Team, which launched
CLAA's Alpaca National Advertising Campaign and the alpacainfo.ca web site.
Rainer Goetze served as Director on the Board of the ALPACA ONTARIO Inc.
Association. In 2004 Rainer completed successfully the Judge's program with
the 'International Alpaca Judging School' in Peru taught by Maggie Krieger
and Dr. Julio Sumar. Rainer and Caecilia are founding member of ALPACA
ONTARIO Inc. We helped organize the ALPACA ONTARIO Inaugural Show in 2002
and Caecilia chaired the Show Committee for the ALPACA ONTARIO Show in
2003. Caecilia chaired the Alpaca Canada Marketing Committee, Canada's new national alpaca association. Actively promoting the raising of alpacas she is a member of the Navan Fair Alpaca Show Committee, which is organizing the annual Navan Fair Alpaca Show and Fleece Show .
She was instrumental in bringing the Alpaca Canada Futurity&Select Sale to life in November 2007 and organised the Select Sale as a member of the AC Futurity & Select Sale Steering Committee. She is a member of the CLAA Genetic Evaluation Committee with active involvement of the AHEAD program.
Always interested in the fibre aspect of the industry, she chaired the Alpaca Ontario Fibre Promotions Committee in 2007-08 and initiated the first Canadian Spin-off competition; in addition she is a member of the Alpaca Canada Fibre and Product Committee
Caecilia successfully completed the Natural Fibre Centre Camelid Fibre Sorter Certification Program and in August 2007 received her certification as a Certified Fibre Sorter. She has years of experience of sorting fibre for processing and retailing of 'Scorry Breck Alpaca-Pure Luxury' developed end products. This experience together with the completion of the Camelid Fibre Sorter Certification motivated her to start the service of Fibre Harvest Consultation.
Apart from our involvement in the industry on the national and provincial
level we promote the Canadian Alpaca Industry by selling exclusive Canadian
made alpaca fibre products.
We invite
you to come and experience these gentle and intelligent Alpacas. Call
or e-mail us to make sure one of us is here to show you around. If you
come from far, we offer our guest room in our 175 year old home for a
tranquil and peaceful stay.
